Bustier tops have been extremely popular recently. Consider making straps in grosgrain ribbons, wide and long fabric ties, etc to make it look less lingerie and more youthful.
This bustier has a corset-like construction with light boning for a supportive fit, but you can make this top without these boning or underwire.
Overstitch / decorative stitches around seams will make the bustier look more interesting.

MATERIALS
Cotton poplin is great! Pick vintage floral prints for summer.
Boning and underwire > optional. For channeling, you can use a bias tape instead if you make the bustier without the underwire.
